From Webkinz to Club Penguin, State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is asking more websites to ban sex offenders. Forty-three hundred registered sex offenders have already been banned from Facebook, MySpace and Flickr.

Now Cuomo is encouraging websites that specifically cater to children to screen its users.

AG Cuomo said, these sites are catering to young people. They’re attracting young people. They’re saying to young people come here and interact with young people. They have a responsibility to keep them safe.”

Sex offenders in new York State are required by law to register their e-mail address, as well as their home address.

Congress has passed a law creating a national sex-offender email registry but it’s not up and running just yet.
